Brand voice and brand tone are used interchangeably in most brand guidelines. They are not the same thing, and conflating them leads to content that is rigidly consistent rather than appropriately adaptive.

Voice: Your Consistent Character

Voice is who the brand is. It does not change. A brand that is direct, knowledgeable, and warm is those things across all touchpoints.

Tone: The Situational Adaptation

Tone is how that character expresses itself in context. A direct warm brand speaks differently in a product announcement than in a security alert or a cancellation confirmation. The character does not change ÔÇö the emotional register does.
